With a Ledger device your private keys stay in a secure hardware element and never touch the internet. That means you retain ownership of your crypto, instead of trusting an exchange or third party to hold your keys.
A hardware wallet reduces remote attack surfaces — but you still must protect your recovery phrase and be vigilant against phishing.

Ledger Live is the official app for managing accounts, installing apps on your device, and viewing your portfolio. Download Ledger Live only from Ledger’s official domain.
Ledger Live will never ask you to type your 24-word recovery phrase into the app or a website. Any request for the phrase is a scam.
Use Ledger Live to add cryptocurrency accounts (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.). Each account has a receiving address you can use to move funds from exchanges or other wallets.
Always verify the receiving address on the Ledger device screen — malware on a computer can display a different address than Ledger Live shows.
Your 24-word recovery phrase is the backup for your funds. Store it offline, in multiple secure locations (never in digital photos or cloud storage).
If your device is lost or broken you can restore accounts on a new Ledger using the recovery phrase — follow the official restore guide in the Ledger Support center.
